What a Day ... Giant Bowser is finally dethroned

I was allowed a community service day to volunteer at my daughter's school for the Kindergarten classes' renditions of the Three Piggy Opera, and that was fun.

Noon was very nice, a bit brisk and cool with just the right amount of warmness from the sun. A quick work out before night fall is always good and dinner was awesome, as was the banana bread for dessert.

To cap off the evening, I finally beat the NEW Super Mario Brothers Wii game last night. It was a crowing achievment to a perfect day.

The house is getting cleaned tomorrow and the weekend looks promising. I couldn't ask for more.

Raiders finally get a legit QB - Jason Campbell

All in all, I think I'd rather have Jason Campbell and all of our first/second round picks in 2010, 2011 and 2012 than to have streched for an aging QB in McNabb or an alleged rapist in Big Ben R.

This way we draft ILB Rolando McClain and the D-Tackle out of Texas, Lammar Houston AND we still get a solid QB in Campbell. All they had to give to the Redskins for Campbell was a 4th rounder in 2012. Big deal. This is a HUGE upgrade over flabby bust JaMarcus Russell for almost nothing in return. Finally!

Does this guy look good in his uniform or what? Compare this lean QB to tubby JaMarcus ... if you dare.

my BAD REPUTATION - The Hit Girls

Nice that this band is called The Hit Girls, and the namesake for the best character in the KICK-ASS movie, a tween assasin girl called "Hit Girl."

My boy Conan O'Brien will be just fine on cable TV

If FAMILY GUY can make it on TBS, so can Conan. Haters: get off Conan.

Peace at last ...

An Irish prayer for you, my true believing lasses:

Deep peace of the running wave to you.

Deep peace of the flowing air to you.

Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.

Deep peace of the shining stars to you.

Deep peace of the Son of Peace to you.

My fascination with One-Hit Wonders: Donna Lewis

Whatever happened to this song? Whatever happened to Donna Lewis? This looks like a job for A&E Biography or some VH1 "where are they now" TV special. Ahh, memories of my first years of college ... fuzzy memories of pledging, late nights and lots of Taco Bell.

Anywayzzzz ... nothing says cutting edge music video like sepia tones, rotating screens, a white t-shirt and searsucker pants. See for yourselves, true believers.

This cheeky slag is a SICK Rapper ... literally

This wanker raps about rubbin' one out, transforming from Darth Vader to Bumblebee and goin' bezerker ... Wolverine style - Snikkity SNIKT!

Enjoy.

Actress cast in female lead role for Captain America movie

Meet Haley Atwell, true believers:

Marvel Studios announced today that Hayley Atwell has been cast to star as Peggy Carter in the studio's highly anticipated movie CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER opposite Chris Evans. In the early comics, Peggy Carter fell in love with Captain America while they fought together in the war effort. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation. Joe Johnston will direct the film penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige will produce CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel and Louis D'Esposito will executive produce. The film will be released in the US on July 22, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.

Atwell will next be seen in PILLARS OF THE EARTH, the 8-part miniseries premiering July 23 on Starz and the TV series THE PRISONER. Her film credits include THE DUCHESS, BRIDESHEAD REVISITED and CASSANDRA'S DREAM.

SPARTACUS - The Champion of Capua

Thracian. Bringer of Rain. Slayer of Theocolese.

All of these names are for the mighty gladiator, Spartacus - a TV show wrapping up its first season on STARZ. I'll be the first to admit, the pilot episode sucked and I almost gave up on it. It seemed like a cheap CGI-heavy rip off of the movie 300 and HBO's Rome. Now I actually prefer Spartacus over both 300 and Rome. It took a while to get the story going, but now heading into show #14, the season finale, I can't wait to see if it will end on a cliffhanger that will surely signal a season 2 for Spartacus.

If you can stand the gratuitous nudity of females and males alike, there is plenty of violence and political intrigue to keep you coming back for more. There are some fine actors in the show, including Zena herself, Lucy Lawless. So, if you haven't already, enjoy Spartacus - Blood and Sand on Friday nights or OnDemand.

Coming soon to a theatre near you: The Banana Splits

Keep an ear out for this totally 70s theme song during the climactic fight seen in the new comic book movie Kick-Ass, starring Aaron Johnson, Nicholas Cage, Mark Strong and "McLovin" from Superbad.

These are 2 of my favorite comic book covers of all time

I love that they are seemingly hand painted and photo real. Issue #7 of "The Marvels Project" is so simple and yet so striking. The crisp red, white and blue of the uniforms in front of a field of yellow-gold is incredibly pleasing to the eye, not to mention the detail in the drawing of Captain America and Bucky. They seem so graceful as they fall, so real, it's like they can come off the page and recruit you into Uncle Sam's army.

... and issue #5 aint' bad either.

A weight lifted off my shoulders

Finally. Closure. A bitter-sweet day where one door closes with another sure to open. I've prayed for clarity and it came. I trust in God. I trust in the Universe. I trust The Force. I trust that everything happens for a reason. I trust that you make your own luck. I trust that chance favors the prepared mind.

Time to fly, birdie, time to fly.

WonderCon 2010 - San Francisco Moscone Center

Another WonderCon in the books, TBz. Another year of panels, actors, movies, trailers, booth bimbos, videogames, toys, t-shirts, freelance artists, c-list celebs giving autographs, small press books and ... COMIC BOOKS FOR SALE BY THE BUSHEL!

This year's big finds: 9" Super Mario & Luigi for my childrenz. Niiiice.

Also, favorite moment: 5,000 comic book fans in an auditorium booing the sh*t out of the trailer for the 3rd Twilight movie. The booing was so intense they stopped the trailer halfway through and got on to the next one ... Iron Man 2. Boos turned to loud cheering.

Redskins Punk Raiders and trade for Donovan McNabb

My Oakland Raiders simply got abused in this situation with All-Pro QB Donovan McNabb landing in Washington D.C. instead of Oaktown. But you know what? Give Al Davis credit for trying - and admitting that current QB, Jamarcus Russell is a bust that will never pan out. I'd rather be the Raiders with its crazy owner trying desperately to make something happen, as opposed to the 49ers or other teams that just bury their heads in the sand and do nothing.

Still, it hurts that the Redskins new brass, former Raider employees Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen got one over on us and landed McNabb. That has to be chapping Al's backside right now. Who knows, maybe Da Raydaz end up Jason Campbell or Marc Bulger at QB next season - anybody but JaMarcus and 300 LBs.

"Bucky" sidekick cast for Captain America movie; love interest not far behind

Read 'em and weep true believers: Bucky and Peggy Lee will be in the Cap movie. Does this movie really need a teenage sidekick and a love interest? I don't know. Maybe purists will say the The First Avenger would be incomplete without ole Buck' and a girlfriend for Cap. I can live with this if and only if these are the only supporting characters that the audience has to invest in besides the villain, The Red Skull. If the script includes other WWII era superheroes, like the forgettable Invaders, then the story will be too busy and too much to digest.

Me thinks Cap, Red Skull, Bucky and some eye candy = plenty of characters - anything more than that and you risk costumed character overkill.

For what it's worth, the rumors are that some Gossip Girl actor named Sebastian Stan is cast as Bucky Barnes and that Alice Eve is in the lead for the role of Peggy Lee. It hasn't been confirmed, but Matrix alumnus Hugo Weaving has been reported to land the villanous role of the Red Skull. So far, so good ... although the Bucky costume must be handled ever so carefully. Yes, he looks like a red, white and blue Robin from Batman.
