Scarlett Johansson is the BLACK WIDOW in Iron Man 2, Rourke in too
At first it was going to be Emily Blunt playing Black Widow, now it's Scarlett J. I think Blunt fit the bill better and I'm really tired of Scarlett in the Frank Miller comic book movie adaptations, Sin City and The Spirit. Oh well, at leat Mickey Rourke will rock it as a villain in Iron Man 2.
For my money, Marvel Studios got it wrong. If you need a secret-agent type actress to play the Black Widow opposite of Robert Downey Jr., why not a more mature actress that's already played that type of role and actually has red hair? The Black Widow character is nothing like the curvy, young, blonde Scarlett Johansson.
Here are my suggestions for the Russian Spy Natasha "Black Widow" Romanov:
Julie Ann Emery from ABC's 2003 TV Show "Line of Fire"
Annie Wersching, currently starring of FOX TV's "24" with Keifer Sutherland
First, we got confirmation that Mickey Rourke is on board to play the Russian villain in Iron Man 2, and now E! Online has confirmed with Scarlett Johansson's representative that the actress has indeed signed to play the role of Russian superspy Natasha Romanoff, who doubles as Black Widow.
"Scarlett is thrilled to be a part of Iron Man," her rep, Marcel Pariseau said.
The Jon Favreau-directed sequel is scheduled for a May 7, 2010 release.
Variety adds that Rourke will play "Whiplash, a character that includes elements from that comicbook villain and Crimson Dynamo, another Russian baddie."
